Naruto is a manga series by Masashi Kishimoto that was adapted into an anime series. The Naruto manga tells the story of the life of the main character, Naruto Uzumaki, a hyperactive, jovial, and ambitious ninja who wants to realize his desire to get the title of Hokage, the leader and the strongest ninja in his village. The series is based on a one-shot comic by Kishimoto published in the Akamaru Jump edition in August 1997. The Naruto manga was first published in Japan by Shueisha in 1999 in the 43rd edition of Shonen Jump magazine. In Indonesia, this manga is published by Elex Media Komputindo. The popularity and length of Naruto's own series (especially in Japan) rival the Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama, while the Naruto anime series, produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex, was premiered in Japan by the Tokyo TV network and also by anime-specific satellite television networks such as Animax And other television stations, on October 3, 2002 until now. The first series consists of 9 seasons and lasted 220 episodes. The first season of the second series began airing on February 15, 2007. In Indonesia alone, Naruto anime was aired by Trans TV television station, which was aired further by Global TV and was aired on Indosiar for the fourth and fifth seasons until the fifth Naruto Shippuden season . In addition to the anime series, Studio Pierrot has developed eight movies for the series and some original video animation (OVA). The types of merchandise include light novels, video games and card collections developed by several companies. Viz Media has a North American manga and anime production license. Viz has published this series into their magazine, Shonen Jump, as well as several volumes. The anime series began airing in the United States and Canada in 2005, and later in the UK and Australia in 2006 and 2007. The film, as well as some of the OVAs of this series have also been released by Viz, premiering in theaters. Naruto's first DVD volume: Shippuden was released by Viz in North America on September 29, 2009, and began broadcasting on Disney XD in October of the same year. Naruto Shippuden aired in Adult Swim, Toonami in January 2014. Viz Media started streaming both series on their Neon Alley streaming service in December 2012
